CS2 float values: wear ranges from Factory New to Battle-Scarred
How skin wear works in Counter-Strike 2: the five exterior names, Valve's wear value ranges for each and how a finish's wear range is set.

This guide covers the terms Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) uses for skin wear, the five exterior names and the wear value ranges Valve lists for each, as of the Oct. 15, 2026 game text.
What the game calls it
In the game’s text, a skin’s wear name follows the label “Exterior:” and has five versions: Factory New, Minimal Wear, Field-Tested, Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred. A separate item information label reads “Wear Rating.”
Valve’s guide to weapon finishes uses the term wear value. It describes finishes as skins applied to a weapon, with an appearance ranging from factory new to battle-scarred.
Wear value ranges by exterior
Valve lists these wear value ranges on its Workshop finishes page:
| Exterior | Wear value range |
|---|---|
| Factory New | 0.00-0.07 |
| Minimal Wear | 0.07-0.15 |
| Field-Tested | 0.15-0.37 |
| Well-Worn | 0.37-0.44 |
| Battle-Scarred | 0.44-1.0 |
How a skin gets its wear value
A finish defines a range for wear. Valve wrote that when the finish is applied, a random value is chosen within that range.
Valve also wrote that finishes should generally be available in all wear values from Factory New to Battle-Scarred, with a few exceptions. The guide adds that “the wear values don’t have to be the full range.” It says many weapon finishes ship with wear values from Factory New (0.0) to Battle-Scarred (0.6).
What wear does to the look of a skin
As the wear increases, Valve wrote, more scratches appear on the surface and the weapon becomes grimier. Valve also wrote that even the most durable finish gets chipped with heavy use, so every finish is available in a variety of states of wear.
The grime texture and the scratch pattern are both placed randomly. Because of that, each wear pattern is unique, even when the wear amount is identical.
Valve describes the Solid Color Style as wearing directly to the substrate, the original, unfinished material underneath.
FAQ
What are the wear ranges for each exterior?
Valve lists Factory New at 0.00-0.07, Minimal Wear at 0.07-0.15, Field-Tested at 0.15-0.37, Well-Worn at 0.37-0.44 and Battle-Scarred at 0.44-1.0.
Can every skin have every exterior?
Not necessarily. Valve wrote that finishes should generally be available in all wear values from Factory New to Battle-Scarred with a few exceptions. It also wrote that the wear values don’t have to be the full range, and that many finishes ship from 0.0 to 0.6.
Do two skins with the same wear value look the same?
No. Valve wrote that the grime and scratch textures are placed randomly, so each wear pattern is unique even when the wear amount is identical.
What changes visually as wear goes up?
Valve wrote that more scratches appear on the surface and the weapon becomes grimier.
