Valve released a Counter-Strike 2 update on Oct. 22 with changes to map scripting, according to the patch notes posted at 3:56 p.m. PDT. It adds new hostage, console and game rules tools and moves several existing methods.
New scripting tools
Hostages get their own script object, CSHostage. It can report whether a hostage is being picked up or carried and whether it has been rescued, plus who rescued it and when the pick-up started and finished. CSPlayerPawn.GetHostage is also new. Six new events cover hostage pick-up start, pick-up abort, pick-up, drop, rescue and kill.
Instance.Precache is new and returns a CSPrecache object. Its methods check whether the server or client is loading or loaded, and whether it is loaded for all. A Release method is also included.
Two new top-level exports were added:
- Consolegetters for convars as a boolean, number, string, vector, QAngle or color, plus
Console.SetConvar. Valve wrote thatSetConvaris not restricted bysv_cheatsand executes synchronously. - GameRules
StartWarmup,EndWarmup,GetTeamScore,AddTeamScoreandTerminateRound.
Moved and renamed methods
Instance.Msg is now Console.Log. Instance.ClientCommand, ServerCommand and RegisterCheatCommand moved to Console.
IsWarmupPeriod, IsFreezePeriod, IsTeamIntroPeriod, GetRoundsPlayed, GetRoundRemainingTime, SetRoundRemainingTime and AddTeamMoney moved from Instance to GameRules. Valve wrote that moved and renamed methods are still available in their original location, deprecated.
Other changes and fixes
Valve added the top-level custom HUD layout classes HUD_TEAMMENU_VISIBLE and HUD_CHAT_VISIBLE. The radar element can now appear on the radar in every game mode, not just Rush. GameRules.AddTeamMoney now supports the NONE reason with an amount, and a crash when it is called with the NONE reason was fixed.
- Fixed CSTeamMoneyReason enum values not matching
point_script.d.ts - Fixed CSWeaponAttackType enum values not matching
point_script.d.ts - Fixed
CSRadarPoint.IsVisibleToTeamreturning a number instead of a boolean - Fixed
CSObservablePoint.IsObservableForTeamreturning a number instead of a boolean
Logged warnings now include the JS call stack and details about bad argument values. They also count arguments from 0 instead of 1. Auto complete of the map_workshop command was improved.
Why it matters
Map scripting gets new hostage, console and game rules tools, and moved or renamed methods are still available in their original location, deprecated.
