FACEIT ties its Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) skill levels directly to Elo ratings. This guide covers the level brackets, the Challenger rank, how Elo changes, how to link your account and how the seasonal resets work.

FACEIT skill levels and Elo brackets

FACEIT wrote that skill levels are directly linked to Elo ratings, which span from 100 to infinity and reflect a player’s perceived skill and game knowledge. Pairing players with similar Elo is meant to create evenly matched games.

The CS2 brackets are:

Level Elo range
Level 10 2001+
Level 9 1751-2000
Level 8 1531-1750
Level 7 1351-1530
Level 6 1201-1350
Level 5 1051-1200
Level 4 901-1050
Level 3 751-900
Level 2 501-750
Level 1 100-500

Elo brackets differ from game to game. The table above is FACEIT’s table for CS2.

Challenger: the top 1,000 at level 10

Challenger is the rank for the top 1,000 players at level 10. You can find these players on the rankings page in the sidebar on FACEIT. Players with the rank have the Challenger badge shown in place of the level 10 badge in matchrooms and on their profile.

The Elo widget

The Elo widget sits on the matchmaking page or a player’s profile and shows current Elo, level and a progress bar. What the bar shows depends on where you stand:

  • Levels 1-9your current level and Elo. The bar shows how close you are to the next skill level.
  • Level 10, below Challengeryour current Elo and your ranking in your home country and in your region.
  • Challengerthe Elo of the number one player and how far behind that player you are.

How Elo changes after a match

Elo changes through wins and losses. The amount gained or lost is linked to your team’s perceived likelihood of winning. Access to the advanced statistics graph requires a Premium or FACEIT Plus subscription.

FACEIT also introduced an improved Elo formula. It affects only accounts at levels 1-9; level 10 accounts are not affected. FACEIT wrote that the core of the system is unchanged: you earn Elo by winning and lose it by losing. The new formula adds a small layer that recognizes individual contributions within the context of team success, and for most users in most games the Elo earned varies little from before.

Leavers

The leaver rules apply at every level:

  • If a player on your team leaves and you lose, you lose half the expected Elo. The player who left loses twice as much as expected.
  • Anyone queued with the leaver loses the expected amount.
  • If you win despite a teammate leaving, you win the normal amount. The leaver receives only half the expected Elo.

Starting Elo for new accounts

New users who meet certain minimum requirements, including Prime status in CS2, get a starting CS2 Elo translated from their Premier Rating in the most recent CS2 Premier season. FACEIT uses a bespoke formula from its data science team for the conversion. Without a Premier Rating, or if the minimum requirements are not met, players start at 1000 Elo.

Linking your account

The Steam account with your CS2 game ID goes in the integrations section of your FACEIT account. FACEIT lists these errors and fixes:

  • Profile without the game or with private settings: the Steam account either does not contain CS2 or is set to private. Set both “My profile” and “Game details” to Public.

Path: Steam profile > Edit profile > Privacy Settings

  • No Prime status: all new CS2 registrations require Prime status. If you already have Prime but still see the error, FACEIT wrote that playing a match in Premier matchmaking should resolve it.

  • Game already registered: your CS2 ID is connected to another FACEIT account. The original creator of that account should contact FACEIT.

  • Reconnection with a different account: the Steam ID in your integrations differs from the one you are trying to use. Connect the correct Steam account and try again.

  • Platform account already used: each Steam account can be linked to one FACEIT account only. Community Support can help with account recovery.

Deactivating and creating a new account

To create a new account, you must contact FACEIT first and have your active account deactivated. A deactivated account cannot be reactivated for six months, and creating a new account in that time is strictly prohibited. Players who break this rule have the new account permanently banned and the main account banned for up to 12 months. Steam IDs connect to one account only and cannot be added to another after deactivation.

Anti-cheat and Windows requirements

FACEIT wrote that its anti-cheat works in CS2 as it did in CS:GO. If you already have it installed, you do not need to do anything extra.

FACEIT’s Windows Security Requirements FAQ (archived July 29, 2026) describes hardware-level requirements that it has been rolling out gradually: TPM 2.0, Secure Boot and IOMMU with VBS. The FAQ says:

  • TPM and Secure Boot do not affect performance. IOMMU and VBS can have a minor impact in some cases, particularly on older systems or systems with immature firmware.
  • In BIOS, TPM 2.0 can be enabled under “Security” or “Trusted Computing.” The IOMMU option appears as “VT-d” on Intel and “IOMMU/AMD-Vi” on AMD.
  • Secure Boot needs UEFI with GPT. If you are on Legacy BIOS/MBR, FACEIT points to Microsoft’s MBR to GPT tool before you enable it.
  • If the PC will not boot after enabling Secure Boot, FACEIT advises reverting the change, updating the BIOS and trying again.

On Windows versions, FACEIT wrote in that FAQ: “From the 14th of October 2026, Windows 11 will be required to play on FACEIT.”

Seasons, soft resets and placement matches

FACEIT runs seasons that begin with a soft reset followed by 10 placement matches. Your Elo is hidden until you finish them, and then your starting level is revealed. You can queue with friends during placements. Placement matches move your Elo more than standard matches.

Season 8

Season 8 began April 22. FACEIT wrote that it was the heaviest reset and the first to affect every player. Its tiers worked like this:

  • Top-tier level 10 playersthe most compression.
  • Level 10 playersa low-to-moderate adjustment based on their end-of-season rating.
  • Active level 1-9 playersminimal adjustments.
  • Inactive playersa larger downward adjustment.

In Premium and Super Matches, standard party Elo restrictions stayed in force while values were hidden. FACEIT’s example: a level 10 player cannot queue with a level 3 player.

Season 9

Season 9 began Aug. 5. FACEIT described its reset as lighter than Season 8 and personalized: it looks at your activity, win rate and FACEIT Rating across your last 50 games, rather than just your final Elo. Details from FACEIT:

  • Players with 20 or more wins in Season 8 and an average win rate and FACEIT Rating could expect a small reset.
  • Fewer than 20 wins in Season 8 added an inactivity penalty and a larger downward adjustment. Every match played before Aug. 4 reduced any penalty that would apply.
  • The top of level 10 got the most compression. Players above 2,500 Elo would usually start lower, which FACEIT wrote does not mean they underperformed.
  • After each placement match, you see how much the result helped or hurt your starting Elo.

FACEIT gave two reasons for resets: inactive players keep old ratings, and level 10 has no upper limit, so the spread inside it keeps growing.

Playing with friends and season prizes

In the Premium queue, FACEIT is introducing party Elo restrictions. Even so, you can still play with players within 800 Elo of yourself.

Season prizes go through FPL Proving Grounds. The top 125 matchmaking players at the end of the season are invited, and it is the finale of FACEIT season one and all future seasons.

FAQ

What Elo do new FACEIT CS2 players start with?

Players who have Prime status and meet FACEIT’s minimum requirements get an Elo translated from their most recent Premier Rating. Without a Premier Rating, or if the requirements are not met, they start at 1000 Elo.

What Elo do you need for level 10 on FACEIT?

Level 10 starts at 2001 Elo and has no upper limit. The top 1,000 players at level 10 hold the Challenger rank.

Do I need Prime status to play FACEIT in CS2?

All new CS2 registrations require Prime status. If you have Prime and still get the error, FACEIT wrote that playing a match in Premier matchmaking should resolve it.

Can I have two FACEIT accounts?

No. FACEIT allows one active account per player, and finding more than one leads to a permanent ban on the account.

Is FACEIT suitable for new Counter-Strike players?

FACEIT wrote that newcomers are welcome. It also warned that its player base is notably competitive and experienced, so first matches can be challenging.

Do leavers affect my Elo?

Yes. When a teammate leaves and your team loses, you lose half the expected Elo. Win anyway and you get the normal amount.
