What the standings mean for Major invitations
Valve’s Major Supplemental Rulebook says the Major features 32 teams. Sixteen are invited to Stage 1, eight to Stage 2 and eight to Stage 3, all from the VRS.
The three regional lists decide the invitations. A global version is used only for pre-event seeding of the stages, after invitations have been accepted.
How many invitations each region gets depends on the previous Major. A region earns one Stage 2 invitation for every team that reached Stage 3, and one Stage 3 invitation for every team that reached the Playoffs. The rulebook lists the split only for Winter 2025: Europe 6, 5 and 5 for Stages 1, 2 and 3; America 6, 2 and 2; Asia 4, 1 and 1. It gives no later split, so the allocation for the next Major cannot be read from it.
A roster’s region is the one represented by the majority of its players. If there is a tie, the region with greater representation in the Major wins, in the order Europe, Americas, Asia.
Invitations go to intact rosters, first for Stage 3, then Stage 2, then Stage 1. If a roster declines or is no longer intact, the next-highest ranked roster receives the invitation. When no rosters remain, a last-chance regional qualifier fills the slots.
How the standings work
Valve publishes a details page for every roster in each release. The page for Spirit, No. 1 in the Sept. 7, 2026 release, shows how a roster’s points are built:
- The Starting Rank Value comes from the average of four factors: Bounty Offered, Bounty Collected, Opponent Network and LAN Wins.
- That average is placed on a scale from 400 to 2,000 between the lowest and the highest average of all rosters.
- Head-to-head adjustments are added to it. For Spirit, 2,000.0 plus 31.2 gives a final value of 2,031.2.
- For Bounty Collected, Opponent Network and LAN Wins, only the ten best results of the past six months count. They are multiplied by an age weight, and the bounty and opponent network values also by an event weight.
